The role
You live in the feeds. Twitter, Discord, GitHub, press releases, SEC filings — you see it first and write it fast. Breaking tech news with context, not just screenshots.
What you will do
- Break stories on funding rounds, product launches, acquisitions, and layoffs
- Write fast-turn news briefs with context and primary source links
- Maintain a network of sources across startups, Big Tech, and venture capital
- Monitor regulatory changes, patent filings, and government tech policy
- Produce 5-8 news pieces per day during peak cycles
What you need
- 2+ years in tech news, business journalism, or startup reporting
- You have broken a story that other outlets picked up
- Speed and accuracy are not tradeoffs — you deliver both
- Source management: you protect confidentiality and verify before publishing
- Comfortable working asynchronously across time zones
Nice to have
- Existing relationships with founders, VCs, or PR contacts
- Experience with real-time publishing tools and CMS workflows
- You can write a clean lede in under 30 seconds
